At East Rutherford High School, each member of the Marching Cavalier Band is expected to conduct themselves with professionalism, individual motivation, and above all Respect for Staff, All other members, and themselves.  Listed below are expectations and behaviors that each student will need to adopt to help this band become one of the premier bands in our area.

  • Raise your hand with a closed fist when your section is being addressed.
  • Place right hand over chest with a closed fist while other sections are being addressed.
  • Raise your hand with an open palm for questions.
  • Do not talk while being addressed.
  • Do not talk while others are being addressed.
  • Retain all information given to you.
  • Stay Organized
  • No Cell phones are allowed during rehearsal.  You will not need to tweet your status while we rehearse.
  • Be "on time."  Use the following for punctuality:
    • To be Early is to be "on time."
    • To be on time is to be "Late."
    • Just don't actually be LATE.  This will not bode well for you.
  • Be prepared for rehearsals:  Have all your materials.
  • During Rehearsals: Play and hold the note on the downbeat of the next section when given a specific part of the music to rehearse.
  • Avoid scheduling appointments on after school rehearsal days.  These are meant to make the band improve.  If you are not there we will have to catch you up.
  • Accept any discipline when it is given.  If you feel it is not justified - see/ask Mr. Maples.
  • Use Water Breaks for Water Intake, not Socialization.  Those who choose to use their water breaks for things other than getting water will be risking their well being due to lack of hydration.  Marching Band is a very physically demanding activity and you should take care of yourself as best you can.
