40% Class Participation

Students are expected to be on time and have materials ready for rehearsal.  If a student cannot sing/play/march due to an illness, he/she will need a note signed by the doctor.  Typically, if you are too sick to sing/play/march, then you are too sick to be present at school.  Exceptions to this will be considered on a case by case basis.  Students need to be involved in the rehearsal.  Talking, Chewing Gum, Excessive Moving, Eating, etc. will distract others and keep students from being on task.  Once the tardy bell rings, rehearsal begins.  Students are to remain silent until directions are given.  Students should check the board daily before class begins in order to know what the plans are for the day.

* Students will be given 100 points per week (20 points per day) for a participation grade.

  • 5 points will be deducted for tardy
  • 5 points will be deducted for missing music and/or coordinate sheets
  • 5 points will be deducted for missing equipment

* All Unexcused Absences will deduct 20 points per absence from the weekly grade.

* All Absences (excused or unexcused) after 2 (per grading period) must be made up to regain the grade.

* It is the student’s responsibility to schedule make-up time with the director.

20% Classwork/Homework

Any and all classwork or homework assignments given will be turned in on time.  Late assignments will not be accepted and a grade of zero (0) will result.

20% Quizzes

Students will be asked to perform individually a predetermined selection of music at various times throughout the grading period.  Written tests may also be administered.

20% - Performances/Concerts

Students are required to attend ALL performances/concerts and wear the appropriate attire.  Each student will receive an individual grade for each performance.  Concerts are the results of many weeks of hard preparation by the students.  We want to give the best concert experience possible.  Students are required to stay for the ENTIRE event.  If an emergency comes up and your child cannot make the concert, please give me a call.
